Condor invests in innovation and diversification in order to grow |
| |
The industry of hygiene and cleanliness Condor, Sao Bento do Sul (SC), outlined the goal of 50% growth in turnover by 2012. The company, which earned U.S. $ 203.8 million in 2008, aims to focus on innovation and diversification of products to reach that mark. According to main director of the company, Osmar MUHLBAUER, the plan involves investments, mainly in the industrial park renewal.
The equipment will be brought from Europe and Asia, to take an advantage on lower dollar U.S., and will replace machines that are in use for about 20 years and have low productivity.
The option to focus on innovation and diversification of products at this time, he says, is a requirement of the market and a way to build a strong advance of the multinational competitors.
In toothpaste, one of the lastest segments, which came in 2006 from the purchase of Bonamil in the Northeast, the focus is the development of new formulations. "
"Brazil is considered a market with great potential, alongside China and India. All the multinationals are looking at them more carefully than a year ago, because they seek new markets, as U.S. and Europe are shrinking. "said MUHLBAUER.
According to MUHLBAUER in recent months Condor increased sales in Latin America in order to compensate for shrinkage in the U.S. market. He says he lost one of its major American customers. "We had to increase prices because the margins were being sacrificed, which was not accepted by the customer." However, the company exports remained at 10% of the total billed, with growth in sales to Argentina, Chile and Paraguay. (Fonte: Valor Econômico - Empresas & Tecnologia - 30.06.09)

| |
In a quickly passage through São Paulo for the reopening of the group headquarters, last Friday, Pott(one of the four executive members of the company) said that Bayer had an outstanding centenary role in the 70s in Brazil, but went away during the decades of 1980/1990.
Now, analize Pott, they hope to make Brazil as the global platform for certain group activities. Earlier this year, Bayer has announced investments of $ 140 million for 2009. The value includes the installation of a center for pharmacovigilance to sipport all the countries of America - including the U.S..
"This is the first time that Brazil has a global basis to support the group," said Horstfried LAPPLE, chairman and spokesman of Bayer in Brazil. With the acquisition of Schering, the company began to have three factories in the country, including a unit that exports drugs contraceptives for Latin America and Asia. Petropolis invests more in marketing to gain U.S. $ 2 billion bill |
| |
In dispute with the other three largest breweries in the country (AmBev, Schincariol and FEMS), Petrópolis was the one that won more market last year. Rose from 8.5% stake in January 2008 to start 2009 with 9.8% - 1.3 percentage point gain. According to the Nielsen numbers for May, Petrópolis is now 9.7% of sales.
Much of this result was reflected in investment in expansion of productive capacity - which reached U.S. $ 330 million and made a jump from producing 656 million liters to 823 million, including the inauguration of the plant Rondonopolis (MT) in July last year . Factories in Petrópolis (RJ) and the Boituva (headquarters company) were also expanded and received modern equipment. Part of the money used in these extensions (R $ 200 million) came from resources funded by the National Bank of Economic and Social Development (BNDES). In addition to infrastructure investment, the company also implemented a good money on marketing.
The idea is to promote the two product lines that will receive more attention from the company this year: the premium beers, with prices that can rise from $ 20 a bottle of 600 ml, and cans of 310 ml - 40 ml less than the traditional and about $ 0.10 cents cheaper. "The intention with this product is to offer one more option of packaging for the consumer to spend less," said Costa. The primary channel for sales of new product, with release scheduled for July will be the supermarkets.
With the line of special beers Petra Princess Black and the strategy is different: to conquer the consumer of bars and restaurants. (Source: Economic Value - Business & Technology - 29.06.09)

Sales of beer grow 2.9% in May |
| |
From January to May, according to Nielsen, the brewing industry in Brazil sold about 110 million liters more than the same period last year. In billing, the result was even better: the box of beer grew 7.6% compared with the first five months of 2008.
"There was a 12% increase in the minimum wage in February this year," says Paulo Macedo, director of external relations of FEMSA Mercosur. "It also left more disposable income for consumers because it was a decline in food inflation," said Alexandre Loures, manager of corporate communication of AmBev.
Adding a penny here and another there, the fact is that sales continued to rise, even after the carnival and the end of the summer. This is because, when the cunsumer buy beer in supermarkets, the consumer has found packages "cents" cheaper.
Moreover, the Brazilian who loves to drink beer find in supermarkets a drink cheaper than in the bars. In São Paulo, for example, the bars charge $ 3.50 a can of 350 ml - almost three times more than in autoservices. That is why, according to the Nielsen survey, sales in supermarkets were high in volume of 8.1% between January and May. Among the breweries, the leader AmBev won participation in the first five months of the year, ending in May with 68.3% of the market (high of 1.3 percentage point compared to January). The Schincariol has lost the most (from 13.2% in January to 12.3% in May). Petrópolis got 9.7% and FEMSA 7.6%.(Source: Valor Economico - Empresas & Tecnologia - 29.06.09)

Marfrig invests in new suine plant |
| |
The Marfrig Foods announced on Monday, the complex construction of its first production of pigs in Mato Grosso, which has a plant for slaughtering and processing, with the ability to shoot 3 thousand head per day, and a plant for production of feed. The complex will be installed in the city of Rosario West (MT) and will begin this year. The performance of the group takes place today through Mabella mark, which has a plant in Itapiranda (SC) and one in Frederico Westphalen (RS). Together, these units are able to shoot 4.2 thousand animals per day. For Marfrig the segment of suine was one of the most important in the first quarter of 2009. The company's strategy to open its first unit of slaughter and processing of pigs in Mato Grosso is a natural tendency of companies producing animal protein to get closer to the raw material. The State is the second largest domestic producer of maize, the main raw material for production of pigs. In the assessment of Pedro de Camargo Neto, president of the Brazilian Association of Industries producer and exporter of Pigs (Abipecs), domestic production tends to grow in areas that have greatest potential to provide the inputs. The investment in the segment of pigs happens less than a week after the company announced its entry into the sector of turkey, with the purchase of that division Frangosul Doux for $ 65 million. According to some market analysts, the acquisition and the new plant that will be built do not interfere in any way in negotiating with Bertin. (Source: O Estado de S Paulo - Economy - 26.06.09)
